The role of network connectivity on epileptiform activity.
2021
AbstractA number of potentially important mechanisms have been identified as key players to generate epileptiform activity, such as genetic mutations, activity-dependent alteration of synaptic functions, and functional network reorganization at the macroscopic level. Here we study how network connectivity at cellular level can affect the onset of epileptiform activity, using computational model networks with different wiring properties. The model suggests that networks connected as in real brain circuits are more resistant to generate seizure-like activity. The results suggest new experimentally testable predictions on the cellular network connectivity in epileptic individuals, and highligh…
Model network architectures in vitro on extracellular recording systems using microcontact printing
2001
A PDMS stamp is used to transfer a synthetic peptide in a given pattern to any suitable surface. Using this method two-dimensional neuronal model networks could be formed on glass substrates as well as on electronic devices and adjusted to the given microelectronic structure. The present work focuses on the mechanism of neurite guidance under simplified in vitro conditions, using in vitro guidance cues and outline the incorporation of these interfacial methods into microelectronic sensor devices.
Structural and Gelation Characteristics of Metallo-Supramolecular Polymer Model-Network Hydrogels Probed by Static and Dynamic Light Scattering
2021
Supramolecular polymer gels are a promising class of materials whose polymer components are connected by transient bonds such as metal–ligand interactions, thereby spanning a dynamic network throug...
Connectivity defects enhance chain dynamics in supramolecular polymer model-network gels
2016
Supramolecular polymer networks exhibit twofold dynamics: that of their polymer chains and that of the transient bonds between them, which is further complexed when irregular network structures lead to local variation of both. A typical irregularity is imperfect network-chain connectivity. To assess the impact of that, we study the diffusion of three different types of tracer polymers in supramolecular model networks of four-arm star-shaped poly(ethylene glycol). First, we focus on tracers that carry three stickers and one fluorescent label at their four arms, thereby creating an inherent network connectivity defect in their vicinity. Second, we embed tracers that carry four stickers and fo…
